1. Why Mission Beach Surf School?
Mission Beach Surf School will give you the best value for your money and options. So if you want to save money and have your own surfing gear just bring it and pay for the surf lesson only. Mission Beach Surf School guarantees to have you standing by the end of your first lesson. We are a licensed and permitted Surf school by the city of San Diego and partnered with the biggest surf school in San Diego
2. Where are you located?
Our store front is inside Baked located at 735 Santa Clara place, 92109 CA in San Diego.
3. How early should I arrive?
Parking, especially on weekends can be a challenge, so allow yourself at least 30 minutes before class to ensure a parking spot.Free parking is available on Mission Boulevard and on the Bay side of Santa Clara place or $5.00 parking a little further North on Mission Boulevard.
4. What should I bring to my surf class?
Come already wearing your swimsuit and bring a towel, sunglasses, hat, and a change of clothing. If you have your own surfboard and or wetsuit please bring this so you can get the $35 dollar rate surf lesson .We recommend sunscreen of SPF 30. You will want to stay hydrated at the beach so water and drinks are a must. There are vendors in the area but you should always be prepared.
5. Where do I meet for the surf lessons?
Our staff will email you with directions after you sign up! For additional information regarding our location.
6. What should my child bring to camp?
Campers should bring a labeled back pack or bag, bring a healthy lunch and snacks, pocket money if desired, long sleeve sweatshirt or jacket, towel, sunscreen, shoes, and a drink.
7. What should I do if I wear contacts?
If you wear disposable ones you will be okay. Otherwise, you can wear an old pair and close your eyes tightly when underwater. You may also want to use swim goggles.
8. What is the water temperature like?
During the summer months the water temperature ranges between 65ºF - 71ºF. in California .
9. Do we get to use wetsuits?
Mission Beach Surf School will provide wet suits if you need it. If you have your own suit you are welcome to use it so you can get the discounted rate of $35 surf lesson
10. Do we have to use wetsuits or can I bring my own?
You can wear your own wetsuit! If you don't want to wear a wetsuit it is advisable that you bring a pair of surf shorts/board shorts to use with a rash guard that we provide for you.
11. What kind of instructors do you have?
All of our instructors are experienced surfers, some are even professional! They are all certified in CPR and first aid.
12. Do I get a discount for bringing my own equipment?
Yes if you bring your wetsuit and own board the cost of your lesson will only be $35 . We do not guarantee that you will stand in your first lesson if the surf board you bring is not appropriate for your own skill level.
13. Do you offer any discounts?
We offer discounts to groups larger than ten people, birthday parties, and discounts advertised by Mission Beach Surf School.
14. Do we get to use the wetsuits and equipment after the lesson?
All private, semi private and group lessons paid at the regular rate allows you to use our surfboards and wetsuits after your lesson free of charge for one hour.
15. Do you rent surf boards after our lessons?
You are welcome to further rent surf boards after your lesson if we have the equipment available.
16. Are there restrooms or changing rooms nearby?
At s ome of our locations we do have rest rooms. Please wear bathing suit underneath your clothing for quick change.
17. How good of a swimmer do I need to be?
You need to be able to swim with your head above water and must be able to swim to shore. Smaller kids and weak swimmers will be kept in shallow waters and our instructors are always with the students at all times!!!!
18. Are there stores and restaurants in the area?
Our school and overnight camps are situated within close distance of popular restaurants and clothing stores and supermarkets.
