FAQs

Semi-private surf lessons are those where two students share one instructor. It’s a perfect blend of private and group lessons that offers personalized learning along with the joy of sharing the surfing experience with someone else, be it a friend, sibling, partner, or coworker.

Semi-private surf lessons offer the best of both worlds. You receive personalized attention, detailed feedback, and tailored instruction from your instructor, similar to a private surf lesson. At the same time, you get to share this unique experience with a friend or loved one, motivating and supporting each other’s progress. This setup can often make learning faster, more enjoyable, and more inspiring.

In a semi-private surf lesson, a pair of students share one instructor. After a brief on-land training session, you and your partner will head out to the water. While one student rides the wave, the other can observe, rest, or receive more personalized feedback from the instructor. This rotation system allows both students to maximize their practice and learning time.

Typically, the surfing partners in a semi-private lesson are determined by the students themselves. We advise choosing a partner who’s around your skill level for the best learning experience. If you’re booking a semi-private lesson, you’ll generally be asked to provide the name of the person joining you. If you’re looking to be paired for a semi-private lesson but don’t have a specific person in mind, get in touch with us, and we’ll do our best to pair you with a suitable partner.

Absolutely, semi-private surfing lessons are suitable for students of all skill levels. Whether you are a beginner or more experienced, our instructors can cater the lesson to meet you and your partner’s skill level and surfing goals.

Scheduling options can vary, but we generally operate 7 days a week, at various times throughout the day to accommodate different schedules and tide levels.

A typical semi-private surf lesson lasts approximately 90 minutes. This should provide ample time for both participants to receive personal feedback and instruction, while also getting plenty of time out on the water.

Yes, equipment rentals are indeed included in the cost of a semi-private surf lesson. Each participant will be provided with a surfboard, wetsuit, UV Protection, Rash Guard, and Leash.

Yes, surf lessons are offered to children. In the case of both private and semi-private lessons, we do require that the child is at least five years old and capable of swimming. This ensures that they can safely enjoy their time in the water.

As with all our lessons, safety is our top priority at Mission Beach Surf School. Each of our instructors is certified in CPR and is trained in Ocean Rescue and First Aid.
